Highland Park, Texas is located about 4 miles north of Downtown Dallas between North Central Expressway (U.S. Route 75) and the Dallas North Tollway, about 2 miles from Dallas Love Field Airport. Highland Park is known for having some of the most expensive property values in Dallas. Highland Park is also known for having a huge 75 wide and 75 feet tall pecan tree that is over 140 years old. In 1927 the town began lighting the pecan tree during the Christmas holiday season, and has continued almost every year since then, and is recognized as one of the oldest community tree lighting traditions in the Dallas County. University Park, Texas, located north of Highland Park in Dallas County, is home to Southern Methodist University and now the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum. University Park began in 1915 as several homes surrounding Southern Methodist University. Highland Park and University Park combined are called the Park Cities. The Park Cities are known for having some of the highest per capita incomes in not only the Dallas/Fort Worth area, but the state as well. Highland Park Independent School District serves the Park Cities, and is known for their exemplary schools.
